XML viewer, formatter and validator

Open XML files, inspect elements and namespaces, and validate or format the source in your browser. File contents stay on your device.

Step 1: Open your XML

Accepts .xml, .xsd, .svg, .xsl and .xslt. Contents stay in your browser.

  1. Step 2: Inspect and format

Inspect elements and namespaces in the outline. Format the source and review validation errors.

  2. Step 3: Download your XML

Download the reviewed XML to keep a copy on your device.

Local sessions can be cleared by your browser. Save a download to keep a copy.

Namespace-aware inspection

Qualified names and namespace declarations remain visible instead of being flattened into ambiguous object keys.

Safer validation

Malformed XML gets a line-aware error. Ordinary parsing rejects DOCTYPE declarations. Local DTD validation needs explicit setup in the editor; external entities are never fetched automatically.

Your XML stays local

File and pasted contents are processed locally. Ordinary page and asset requests still reach the hosting provider.

Frequently asked questions

Does my XML file get uploaded?

Local editing processes XML in your browser. Optional Assistance sends only your goal and context you explicitly preview and include to OpenRouter and the configured model provider. XPath drafting has separate opt-ins for vocabulary names, root namespace URIs, diagnostics, current expression and an optional exact selected XML sample; those items can contain sensitive data. Attached resources and unselected source are not sent automatically. Desktop versions with local assistance can instead explicitly connect a downloaded Ollama model at 127.0.0.1:11434. The service controls processing beyond that endpoint; local-only processing requires downloaded models and disabled cloud features. Ordinary page and asset requests also reach the hosting provider.

Can AI help edit selected XML?

When configured, open Tools and XML assistance, select literal source and explicitly include its preview. The generated source changes must preserve the selected original text and pass local syntax and configured schema/DTD validation. Review before one undoable Apply; source saving remains separate. The model is shown, no document is sent automatically, and unconfigured assistance is unavailable.

Can assistance draft an XPath expression?

When a configured destination supports it, open Tools and XPath query assistance. Prepare local context, review each preview and explicitly include only the vocabulary, root namespace bindings, diagnostics, current expression or selected sample you want to send. All inclusions start off. The draft passes bounded local syntax/subset and prefix checks without execution. Use reviewed XPath draft changes only the expression; Evaluate XPath runs it separately. Source-dependent validity and results remain unverified until you run it. Drafting refuses XQuery, constructors, updates, dynamic calls and resource loading; manual XPath/XQuery editing and execution remain available. Unconfigured assistance is unavailable. Desktop and extension availability depends on separate host qualification.

Does formatting preserve XML namespaces?

Qualified element and attribute names and namespace declarations are retained. Formatting avoids changing mixed-content text. Review the generated XML before downloading a copy.

How do I view and format an XML file?

Choose or drop an XML file, paste XML, or try the sample. Inspect elements and namespaces in the outline, then use Format or Validate on the source. Download the reviewed XML to keep a local copy.

What does XML validation check?

Validate checks that the XML is well formed and reports syntax errors. Checking an XSD requires attaching the schema and its local dependencies in the editor. Ordinary parsing rejects DOCTYPE declarations; documents with DTDs need the explicit local DTD mode and attached resources. External resources are not fetched automatically.

Can I export XPath or XQuery results beyond the preview?

Yes. Run the query in Tools, then choose Export complete query output to rerun it and save all returned values as newline-separated UTF-8, up to 64 MiB including separators. The on-screen preview remains limited to 200 values or one million characters. Complete export has Cancel and a 10-second timeout; changing the source or expression invalidates the export. No partial file is published on failure. This saves a separate text result and does not edit your XML. The browser still holds the parsed XML and query-engine data in memory.

Can I open large XML files?

Files up to 25 MiB open for full source editing. Larger files open as bounded read-only previews, with tools to inspect the complete original and download its original bytes. A preview is not the complete document.
